Stupid question about opening the box.

I just received Office 2007 and Projec 2007 and can't for the life of me
figure out how to open the box. I've removed the tape and smashed the Office
box to get it open, but would like to figure out how to open the project box.

Are there instructions on how to do this anywhere or should I just go back
to the hammer.

Maybe if Microsoft didn't spend so much on a stupid box to deliver a disc,
the software could be a little less expensive!

I feel your pain petervana. It took me 20 minutes to figure it out. Nice,
eh? Not bad for a guy with two master's degrees....

Place the box with a right angle in the lower left corner, so the box now
has the curved side in the upper right, the Microsoft Authenticity Sticker
should be on the top of the box with the curve to the right. Don;t worry
about the sticker position, get the curve in the top right.

If you take a razor blade (or other sharp object) you will see the box
separated on seams that are on the top/bottom edges of the long part of the
authenticity sticker. Cut along both the long edges of the sticker.

Now, look for a hinge --- it will appear as a little round circle in the
plastic along the bottom edge. That is the pivot point, it should be on the
bottom right.

If you have the box positioned as I described, there may be a small red tape
tab that you can pull to the right and the box will open. It is essentially
a plastic sleeve that fits inside a larger sleeve but it is tacked down by
the hinge at the bottom. The hinge is located at the bottom of the long side
where the curve comes down .... all the way to the bottom.

I found the trick was to mack sure i had all the tape and the sticker cut
completely through. If you can separate the two sides along the curve, you
have the slot to run your razor blade.

When the box opens, the curved part will be in motion toward the right.

About the best I can describe it is that it is about like opening a Johnny
Walker Blue box .... After you get it open, you may want that Johnny!

Hope that helps, if so, please consider rating the reponse to others can
know how to get the box open as well.

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the information. I got to the point of peeling off the tape and
trying to pull the red tab, but there are a whole bunch of little latches
around the preimeter that I had to pry open with a screwdriver. Now my box
is whole and apart and I can't think of any use for it. It's too big to
store 1 disc! I still don't understand the purpose of this contraption.
Guess I'm just a shrink wrapped box guy.

Leave it to M$ to make even opening a box a major undertaking! I can
only imagine how frustrated I would have been had I encountered
something like this! Five paragraphs to describe how to open a lousy
box??!! Unbelieveable!

Thanks for taking the time to figure out the box-opening secret, and for
taking the time to tell it to us. I probably would have spent 2 hours to
figure out how to open the box.

Is this some kind of MS Rite of Passage to determine who is smart enough to
use the software--ie, if you can't get the box open, you might as well send
it back?
