subject heading

Dear all:
I recieve an email recently with the subject heading: new subject (was
Re: FW: old subject)

does anyone know what this means, for example if it was just FW then I
assume that email was forwarded to me, but this is something that seem
more complicated....thanks!

the email was legitimate...the reason why I am so interrested is
because I sent an email out a few days ago to xyz and today this is
what I got back from another person...I just wanted to know what happen

ok.. the person you sent it to forwarded it to someone else - that put the
FW on it. They replied to you and that put the re on it.

thanks....this was what I thought orginally, however when I tried to
duplicate this on own email, it just did not do the same thing-could
this because they are using a different version? or maybe, gasp, a
different program ie. thunderbird.

yes... outlook normally deletes the FW or RE so only one tag is present but
if the other mailer adds a space before the first letter, ie " FW:" outlook
won;t delete it.

This explains how outlook and outlook express work, although the problem
described is opposite yours - a space or other non-alphabetic character
prevents outlook from, working correctly.
