and with what part of the homework assignment are you having problems with -
the entering of dates, the subtraction or the formatting?

If you have the dates in cell A1 and A2: =(A2-A1), and then you change the
Dates format to Number format in Format Cells (under Format-Cells).. The
reason it works is Excel calculates all dates in numbers and a later date
(A2) has a higher number that a prior date (A1).
