sum of hours

i am trying to create a timesheet for employees, with 6
columns, (date,start time,end time, hours, less lunch,
total hours. all the hours cells are formated in time
category & 13.30 type. Hours cells have the formula of
end time minus start time which works out ok, but when i
try to sum the hours column it is no where even close to
what it should be, ie 8:30,8:00,8:15,8:00,8:00 adds up to
16.45. any help in the problem would be greatly
appreciated, would prefer you email the answer to me,
