SUM Year to Date

With a spreadsheet having columns for each month and rows for each category,
can selected rows be summed from another sheet based on a month name? That
is Sheet one is the monthly budget of income and expenses and sheet two is a
report for current month, say October.

Example
Sheet 1
J A S
Sales 10 20 30

Sheet 2 Current Month Sept
Sales If month Sep then SUM JUL:SEP

Thanks for past help

Assumptions:

Sheet 1
---------

1) Months listed in the first row starting at B1
2) Categories listed in Column A starting at A2
3) Data is contained in B2:M5

Sheet 2
---------

Labels...

A1: enter Current Month
A2: enter Category
A3: enter Amount

Formulas...

B1:

=TEXT(TODAY(),"mmmm")

B2: enter category of interest (Sales, etc.)

B3:

=SUM(INDEX(Sheet1!B2:M5,MATCH(Sheet2!B2,Sheet1!A2:A5,0),1):INDEX(Sheet1!B
2:M5,MATCH(Sheet2!B2,Sheet1!A2:A5,0),MATCH(Sheet2!B1,Sheet1!B1:M1,0)))

Adjust the range accordingly.

Hope this helps!

Domenic, thank you very much for this answer. I was trying to do it with a
single function! No chance! Regards Bob
