At the top of the query design window is the sum button
(backwards E). Clicking this adds a row to the definition
grid. Each field selected has choices for this Total
row. Choose Sum for the one for which you want a total.
At the simplest level is to have only one field display
and choose Sum for it. More advanced would be have totals
(seems like subtotals to me) for some grouping, such as by
date (multiple records for a date).
