Sychronization error??? Program locks up

I recently started having an issue with my Outlook 2000 Premium where it does
not respond when cpnnected to my company VPN. When I view the task manager
it shows two copies of the program running -- both as 'not responding'
--eventually it goes back to one version shown as 'running' but as soon as I
click anywhere on the window it reverts to 2 versions both not responding.

My MIS people are confused and the only way I can get it to work at all is
to work offline and manually synchronize folders--which is about 90%
succesful.

I have tried removing and reinstalling all of Office --but as soon as it is
loaded the problem returns AND all of my folders/emails are back in the
program.

I was hoping for a way to completely delete all local Outlook content (PST
files saved to disk) and start 'fresh' when synchronizing with the network.

Any Ideas on the issue or how to 'wipe clean' my local outlook footprint
before reinstalling???
