Sync 10.1.4 Quits in Middle of Sync with Entourage 10.1.5

I just installed the updates to office X. So it is updated to Office
10.1.5. I then installed the most recent entourage palm sync for
office 10.1.4. Now I hadn't had it installed in a long while because
my palm was broken and I'd since gotten a new machine. So I try and
hot sync and it starts but after connecting and trying to sync using
the entourage conduit it crashes and the sync quits. When I check the
palm all has been erased that was on there. I was trying to overwrite
the palm with entourage.

I tried syncing just categories. It was able to successfully sync a
smaller category but it crashes when I try a larger category. For the
record I have about 1800 contacts. The only things I have in the
conduits folder is the entourage and install.

Does anyone know if sync 10.1.4 is incompatible with the newest office
update 10.1.5? If it isn't then when are they going to fix this. If
it is compatible then what else could my problem be.

Another note Entourage says its version is 10.1.4 (030702).

On another note I did try to rebuild the database by starting
entourage while holding down the option button but the option to
rebuild never came up. Did I do that right?

I would appreciate any help that anyone can provide. Thank You.

The newest version of Handheld Synchronization for Entourage X (10.1.4)
should be compatible with the latest Office update, 10.1.5.

Unfortunately I don't have a Palm and I know little about the conduit so I
won't be of much help to you there.

Yes. Here are a few things to check:
Make sure the Caps Lock key is not depressed. Use Key Caps
(HD/Applications/Utilities/Key Caps) to make sure the Option key is working.
Try the other Option key if you have problems. Remember you need to keep it
held down from when the Dock icon starts bouncing or the triangle starts
pulsing until the Rebuild dialog box comes up.

Also make sure you turn off Office Notifications within Entourage before
attempting the
rebuild (Entourage -> Turn Off Office Notifications).

I am also having problems with Entourage "unexpectedly" quitting in
the middle of hot syncing. I upgraded to 10.1.5 but the problem
persists. Would deleting the Entourage preferences and settings help?
Any other suggestions?
Many thanks,
Trudy

Others have reported problems if special characters such as < or > appear in
the phone number fields of a contact.

You might want to turn off individual areas one by one to see which is
failing.

There is an issue with calendar syncing in that the palm doesn't like 'open
ended' recurring events.

Do a search (in entourage) for all events where 'recurrence is true', and
check that each event has an end date set.

This MAY cure the problem.

I'm having the same problems. I've narrowed the problem down during
Calendar syncing. What now?

Also, anyone know why there's no option for Entourage
(https://webresponse.one.microsoft.com/oas/Secure/AssistedAddproduct.aspx)
to send a tech support e-mail?

I just bought Entourage, so I'm trying to perform a first time sync.
There are no events yet in the calendar. And the Palm doesn't contain
any open-ended events either.

OK, I tried Barry's suggestion re: giving all recurring events an end date
and I still get the same problem.
Any other suggestions?

After about 6 hours on the phone with Microsoft, I just decided to
sacrifice the information in my date book. So I did a sync with
Entourage overwrighting the handheld...and it worked. Now I can add
or change things in either Entourage or the Palm and it works. So it
seems I had an event in the Palm that was causing problems.

I also contacted Microsoft who wanted me to do a complete rebuild of
the database. I decided before such extreme measures to try syncing
with Outlook on a PC (I made the handheld as complete as possible).
The sync with Outlook worked just fine. I then did a selective sync
between the handheld and Entourage with just handheld overwrites
Entourage selected. It worked just fine. I did full sync just to make sure
and it worked fine. Looks like it was some kind of Palm/Entourage
quirk. If you've got access to Outlook, this might be an easier solution
than rebuilding. The only kink is making sure you Palm has as much
complete info on it as possible.
