According to the publicity and manual you should be able to synch

anyone else had this problem? Have you discovered a fix yet? I have

I don¹t have an iPhone, but I do know that syncing Entourage requires you to
duplicate your database. There is no way to sync in terms of adding just new
items.

One of the MVPs has an iPhone so he might be able to shed some light on what
you are expecting.

You have to turn on Entourage Sync Services in Preferences.

Entourage 2004 will sync your contacts and calendar events to Address Book
and iCal. Then, the Address Book and iCal database are synced to the iPhone.

From page 7 of the iPhone user manual
<manuals.info.apple.com/en/iPhone_User_Guide.pdf> ...

"On a Mac, any other address books you¹ve set to sync with Address Book,
such as Microsoft Entourage, will also be synced with iPhone."

In other words, you've got to to turn on Sync Services in order for the
iPhone to sync with Entourage.

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried it and the sync took almost 2.5
hours!!!! The good news is that is picked up my Entourage calendar,
but somehow it erased my entire Entourage contact list and didn't put
any contacts on the phone. So now I have no contacts on my computer
or Iphone. I recently backed up my computer so I assume that on my
external drive I have the contacts. My new question is how do you
import the backup data back to the current Entourage contact list.
Plus where do I look? I found Entourage on the back up hard drive and
some files that say for example 113.vRgeContact are those the files?
if so, how do you import them. Everytime I try i can't get it to
work...Thanks

I think a more accurate description of iPhone syncing would be "iPhone
syncs your contacts and events _like_ Address Book and iCal" because
technically it's not syncing directly with the Address Book and iCal
applications.

Syncing the iPhone is like syncing anything else with .Mac.

Entourage, Address Book, iCal, Palm devices, telephones, etc., sync to
the "truth" database. As long as syncing is enabled in Entourage it will
sync to the "truth". Then it will sync with any other sync-enabled
application such as .Mac, Address Book, iCal, etc. Every piece of
information in a record (if I understand the documentation correctly)
will sync to the "truth" but it's up to the other applications to
understand all the information in the "truth". That's why photos, for
example, don't sync. Entourage has its own schema for photos while
Address Book uses something else.

You can use the Address Book and iCal to verify what information will be
synced with the iPhone because the iPhone will act just like the Address
Book and iCal.

I sorry you had trouble with the sync services.

(1) Syncing to the iPhone ...

You are going to need to get the Sync Services working right if you want to
get all of that information on the iPhone.

Check out this MVP web resource, "Basics of How Sync Services Works."

<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/syncservices/basics.html>

When you first synced the information, you should have been given a dialog
asking if you wanted to ...

€ Replace Entourage items with Sync Services items
€ Replace Sync Services items with Entourage items
€ Merge Entourage items with Sync Services items

If you don't use Address Book or iCal, they you can "Replace Sync Services
items with Entourage items." If you use those iapps and Entourage, you want
to choose the "merge" option.

Both of these latter options should not delete any information in Entourage.

(2) Restoring the Old Events and Contacts ...

Your Entourage contacts and events are a part of the database file kept in
....

~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office 2004 Identities/Main Identity/

If your mail is IMAP (i.e., a server-side mail store), turn off sync
services in Entourage and quit the application. Then, just replace the
current Main Identity folder with the back-up you have. Entourage will sync
up your mail and restore any missing e-mails from your mail server when you
restart Entourage.

If you use POP (i.e., a client-side mail store), you'll need to manually
make copies of the mail you've received since your backup. Then, follow the
instructions above. After you restart Entourage, just restore the e-mails
you backed-up.
