Synchronize

I'm having trouble understand how to work Synchronize. I
have a Laptop that I work on all the time but, when I
hook it up to my network at home I would like for it to
update my files on my desktop (contacts, files etc..)

Can anyone walk me through this?

Do you connect to an exchange server? If not, there's no simple way to do
