Synchronizing Calendar & Contacts, et. al. w/ Exchange 2000

P

In the office we have an Exchange 2000 server.
All MACs currently interoperate with Exchange via Outlook 2001 client which has almost as much capability as it's Windows cousin. Now that most of my MAC users have upgraded to MAC OS X, Outlook 2001 exhibits various printing problem. In an effort to circumvent this issue, I'm testing out Entourage vX for Exchange.

I've figured out a lot except how the application synchronizes Calendar & Contact data. There doesn't appear to be a "Synchronize" setting to force a synch. And...when connected over the VPN from home, Entourage only intermittently synchs data...almost at will whenever it feels like it...

Any explanation or tipe greatly appreciated...

Hi Paul,

I've made the same move. I dumped Outlook 2001 a while ago. I'd rather
use my Exhcange account through POP than in Outlook through CLassic :-\
I've figured out a lot except how the application synchronizes Calendar &
Contact data. There doesn't appear to be a "Synchronize" setting to force
a synch.

The application synchronizes automatically at launch and every 56
minutes or so if I quite remember.
Maybe you didn't set up the free/busy server properly ???
The server should be the same as the OWA server eg:
instead of http://my.webmail.com/exchange/me
use my.webmail.server/public

And...when connected over the VPN from home, Entourage only
intermittently synchs data...almost at will whenever it feels like it...

That's weird.... I would have guessed it either synchs, or it doesn't at
all :-\

What constitues setting up the Free-Busy server properly?
Is it wise modifying the synch settings of Free/Busy at increased intervals?

Hi Paul,
What constitues setting up the Free-Busy server properly?

Putting up the right address in there. Most of the time when people
can't get data to synch, it only is because the free/busy server setting
deos not point towards the OWA server. The rest of the time, it's
because some people need to enable SSL to connect.

Is it wise modifying the synch settings of Free/Busy at increased intervals?

Increased interval ??? I don't think you can do anything to the sync
interval,

I thought it was every minute (or every 2 minutes). ?

I thought I had written 5 not 56 Sorry about that. My big fingers
probably went over several keys at the time and I didn't even realize it
:-\ Now you know why I can't be a pianist ;-)))

Sorry Paul, Paul Berkowitz made me realize a typo in my previous post.
It's not 56, it's every 5 minutes or so.

Paul: Thanks for clearing up the free/busy interval question...What about
forcing synchronization? And, actually, I did state in the initial post that
I was using Entourage v.X.

Corentin: So, if the OWA & Exchange server both read the same then the
synch-ing should be correct, is that right?

I really think it's just 1-2 minutes. But you can force synchronization by
going to Entourage/Switch Identities... That's the same as quitting
Entourage, but quicker,. Then click Switch with the same identity still
selected and it will do the "launch" sync.
