Synchronizing delay - Entourage 2004

I installed Entourage 2004 last week. Since that time, I have been
experiencing severe delays in synchronizing my mailboxes. My home computer
(using a VPN) connection has never fully downloaded all mail, particularly
to my Inbox. In Entourage X, I found that received mail would typically
appear in my Inbox within a minute or two. Now, in Entourage 2004, I am
experiencing delays of hours or more. Right now, I have received no mail
since 9am this morning (twelve hours earlier). I know from my Blackberry
that there are over 100 email messages that I have received in the interim.

Moreover, I am able to send without much problem. I just sent an email to
myself. My Blackberry has it. My Inbox does not.

Has anyone experienced this?

I have had the same issues.

I have a good size mailbox in Exchange 2.5g. 2004 took for ever to sync.
Now that it has, there is a long delay in getting messages. I also notices that
even if I delete a message or move a message in 2004 it takes a while for he
change to actually happen in the Exchange server.

As I test I fire up OW, delete a message from my inbox in 2004 and it takes
2-3 minutes before it is gone from my server inbox when viewed via OWA.

It also totally screws up my Blackberry. For some reason it treats messages
in a way that the blackberry server does not see them as read or deleted.
You can never reconcile your inbox.

I had to go back to X. The only issue with X is that when ever I get a
message it comes into my inbox, disappears, and then comes back again.
this all happens in a matter of a few seconds, but it is a pain. This started
after we installed the BES server. None of the other Outlook users have this
issue.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

E

My experience with the Entourage 2004 delay has been identical. It was
especially acute when I was on the road, using a VPN connection. I finally
gave up and reverted to Entourage X.

I am not sure if this is related, but I never could get the auto-setup to
work in Entourage 2004. Instead, I had to enter the server information
manually. That did appear to work, but for the unacceptable delays.

I, too, get the ghosting under Entourage X, where an email appears,
disappears, then almost immediately reappears. While annoying, it is
nothing compared to the delay under Entourage 2004. In my view, MS has sold
us a real turkey.

E and J,

I experienced this problem after installing Entourage 2004 also. I
missed a few meetings because of the delay! I'm using Entourage with a
microsoft exchange server for work. I tried finding out why it was
happening and couldn't come up with anything, and I didn't have the
problem at all when using Entourage X. So last week I spent a while
cleaning out my fairly large Inbox just to see if it would help, and
it did. It doesn't make sense because the same number of messages
didn't slow the older version, but 2004 didn't seem to be able to
handle it. So if you have a lot of messages in your inbox, give that
a try. I hope this helps!

I too have been seeing this kind of delay with Entourage 2004. One
critical user (CEO) has a mailstore of 2.4GB and the delay is killing
him (and thus me). So far the only answer I've seen is pare down the
number of email they have.

I've noticed that Entourage seems to keep a copy of the entire users
mailstore on their local machine. Is there any way to change that? Can
we just download the message headers?
