synchronizing entourage btwn two computers

B

briantuck7

so, I have been looking around and can't get a definitive answer. Can
entourage be synchronized between two computers? I need to sync
calendar, emails, contacts, address book, notes, etc.

I am using a power book g4 and an ibook g4. running on OSX 10.4.2. I am
not always on a network.

If this isn't possible, what is a better program to use?

Thanks

I need an answer to this too. I want to sync entourage between my desktop
and powerbook.
Does anyone know how?
Would also like to sync bookmarks...

Well, you can only truly synchronise if you create a project in Entourage
(2004 only), put it on a location like an iDisk and then subscribe to it
from the other computer. However, this is not ideal to synchronise every
single item in Entourage, so here's a solution that the two of you might
find acceptable.

All your Entourage items are stored in Entourage's database, which can be
found in ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office [2004 or X] Identities. If
you copy this folder from computer A to computer B, into the same location
(~/Documents/Microsoft User Data/Office [2004 or X] Identities), and you
launch Entourage on computer B, you should have exactly the same content as
on computer A. If you make changes to Entourage on computer B, they will be
saved in the database, so if you copy it back onto computer A, you'll have
the same data on it as well. There is one downside to this method, as it
supposes that you're only using one of both machines as a main computer. In
other words, if you make changes to your data on computer A and copy
computer B's database back to computer A, all the changes on computer A will
be gone. If you're very careful about this, however, the transfer of the MUD
folder should be an acceptable solution,

As for the synchronisation of bookmarks, the easiest way to do this would be
to have a .Mac subscription and use it together with Tiger's .Mac services
(or, in pre-Tiger versions of the OS, iSync). I'm sure there are other
solutions as well, but I've never really looked into this. You might want to
post on Apple's Safari discussion groups to find out where Safari stores the
bookmarks, and simply transfer that file from one computer to the other.

I haven't verified this and can't find where I read it..... But, here goes
some vague conjecture:

It seems that Backup 3.0, which is part of the latest .Mac services, has a
component that will update/sync two folders. It seems like I read that it
will always pick the newest from the two folders and sync them.

1) Has anyone else read this? I'm hoping it was informed information and
not someone's speculation.
2) Might this work to sync two MUD folders?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
You're right, if you're careful and use one as a "main computer", it should
work.
It just would be nice if there were a more elegant solution.
I guess when the next upgrade for entourage comes out it will work with
isync but even then I don't think you can use isync with 2 computers...

Does anyone have an idea when the isync implementation for entourage will be
available?

Maybe I don't understand what is wanted here, but I have been doing this
with Entourage (since System 9) using a program called, surprisingly,
Synchronize! X plus from Qdea (http://www.qdea.com/index.html). I
synchronise two desktops using an iPod as the intermediate media (so via
firewire). I do it as part of the synchronisation of all my working files.
Works fine, just be careful, if MS Office Notifications is running then the
most recently updated version of your Entourage database will be the on the
machine the portable media (like an iPod) is connected to, even though
nothing actually has changed on it. However, Synchronize! X plus will warn
you that both versions have changed since the last synchronization and make
a back-up copy of the older (in this case the desired) version.
