Syncing Entourage with iCal creates duplicates

I'm syncing my Entourage calendar with iCal (using Sync Services in
the Prefs) so that I can publish it for colleagues. Trouble is, it
seems to duplicating certain items each time it syncs. I haven't been
able to work out why some entries are duplicated and others not.

The process also throws up hald a dozen conflicts each time where the
Entourage event and the iCal event are identical - how is this a
conflict?

It's a feature I really like and would love to be able to iron out
these two wringles. Really appreciate your thoughts.

(PowerBook G4; OS 10.4.9; Entourage 11.3.3; iCal 2.0.5)

Thanks

I ahve the same problem with recurring events. I suspect that both
envoronments use a different scheme to specify the recurrence and I
haven't found any workaround yet :-(

You're right in that the issue seems (now) to be confined to recurring
events although it was happening to appointments too. Let me know if
you crack it!

The conflicts may indicate that you need to reset sync services. To do
this, go into isync preferences and reset sync services. This may stop
this behavior.

Oh, I know how to reset SyncServices and I tried many many times without
any improvement :-\
Actually the steps you describe won't really reset sync services.
You can do it manually (and I won;t mention the steps here because it's
a rather risky operation) or even use Synchrospector:
http://www.cortig.net/wordpress/?p=132

The problem with the recurring events comes back though.

I realize this is frustrating. However, it's not a problem that other users
are experiencing an a consistent basis. I have lots of reoccurring events,
and they do not duplicate.

Assuming, for a moment, that there is something amiss with your initial
configuration (no fault of your own), it would seem reasonable to try and
start from scratch.

The instructions for doing this are at:

http://www.entourage.mvps.org/faq_topic/sync_services.html#upgrade2

The big warning is ... this erases all data currently saved in applications
other than Entourage.

Just to be clear... Does this mean that this procedure will replace
the contents of my iCal and Address Book with the contents of
Entourage's Calendar and Address Book?

Thanks

I participated in writing this page..... :->
I know the procedure quite well. Not only did I write the "2) How do I
reset sync services and start fresh? (Warning this erases data!!!)"
section, but I have a shell script to run it again when I do some
testing.

I know recurring event are involved int he problem.
I know that not all recurring events get duplicated
I know that not everybody experiences the problem (but quite a few do.

I suspect that you need something specific in your recurring event to
get it to duplicate like that. I've really been looking carefully but so
far I've failed to identify what, specifically, makes these events
duplicate themselves.

When I completely reset the sync services on my Mac, some other problems
go away, but this one always seem to come back.

Now the issue is: is Entourage the source of the duplication, or is it
something with the SYncServices or iCal.
