syncing Outlook with Pocket PC

I have a client that owns a HP Ipaq Pocket PC. Have the newest ActiveSync installed. Have Outlook 2002 installed. PDA will sync for a short time then get an error message stating no profile established. There is a Outlook profile in the Mail in Control Panel. Then get another message saying the PIM manager is not running. Have tried syncing with Outlook open but still receive this message. What is wrong?
