Syncing Palm with iCal and Entourage

S

Sam Heitner

I would really appreciate it if someone could help me sync my Treo with my
i-Cal (not Entourage calendar) while syncing the rest of my data from
Entourage. Before Entourage would connect with i-sync I added the Entourage
conduit to my Palm Hotsync. Now can't figure out how to delete or
reconfigure it so that iCal can be one of the sync options.
Thanks.

That would be something you select in the application you use for
synching the Treo (either Palm Desktop or The Missing Sync).
It's just a matter of selecting the conduit you want for calendar
events.

Not quite. Unfortunately, The Missing Sync does not let you use both the
Entourage conduit and any of its conduits in the same sync process. To sync
with iCal you would need to use the TMS conduits (excluding the Events
conduit) but to sync with Entourage contacts you need the Entourage conduit
(with the Calendar sync set to Do Nothing). But TMS won't let you do this
in the same sync. So the approach that could work would be to set up 2
profiles in TMS, one that activates the Entourage conduit (sans Calendar)
and the other that activates the TMS conduits (sans Events). Then do 2
syncs, one with each profile. Cumbersome, but it works. I use this same
approach to sync Memos/Notes between my Treo and Entourage using the
Entourage conduit while using iSync via the TMS conduits for everything
else.

Well I don;t use the Entourage conduit myself anymore so I can't really
check.
You mean the app doesn't let you have them both active ?? Because if you
can, you can definitively turn off event synching in one and activate it
in the other. I didn't realize it would still be seen as a conflict :-\

That is definitively an option. It's tedious but it sure would work :-\

I'm not sure what it is you are expecting to achieve.

1. Etourage can HotSync with Treo (650) completely if you use Entourage
11.2.3
2, Entourage 11.2.3 will fully sync with iCal

Or do you wish to cancel/modify your HotSync set-up?

Regards,
Bob

Yes, and I double checked with Mark/Space. They do not do a software check
on the Entourage settings, just whether it is checked or not. If checked,
then none of the TMS conduits can be checked or you get a conflict error. I
asked if they might consider improving TMS by checking for conflict at the
individual component level and the response was "Not a bad idea. I'll pass
it on to the software engineers."

You checked with the wrong guys at Mark/Space! Here's the secret option
those guys you spoke to didn't know about.

Hold down the alt/option key and go to the "Missing Sync" menu in the top
left. You'll notice that "Preferences" has been replaced by "Debug options".
Select that and you'll see some hidden preferences. Check the box marked
"Allow conduit conflicts", click on okay and you're sorted.

For the record, I use the Entourage conduit for syncing my notes and tasks
with Entourage and I use the Missing Sync conduits for syncing iCal events
and Address Book contacts - all in the same sync with the same profile. No
problems.
Woo Hoo!! You 'da man!! Works great. Of course, I can see why they
wouldn't tell me about this because of the real risk of conduit conflicts.
In fact, when I tried it and checked the Entourage conduit (everything set
to Do Nothing except for Notes), I forgot to uncheck the TMS MemoPad
conduit. Didn't work right until I noticed that booboo. The best resolution
is till for Mark/Space to check for conduit conflicts at the settings level
in Entourage rather than for the entire conduit. Meanwhile, I am back in
business and not doing 2 awkward syncs thanks to you!

I use Palm Desktop. I cannot figure out how to delete the Entourage Conduit
so that I can get it to sync with isync. With the Entourage Conduit
installed it takes away any isync possibilities. And there is no uninstall
or delete option that I can identify. The Missing Sync stuff sounds
interesting, but not that helpful to me.

In Palm Desktop, all the conduits are stored in the following folder:

Your Hard Drive
Library
Application Support
Palm HotSync
Conduits

To stop Entourage syncing, remove the "Microsoft Entourage" conduit from the
folder.

To Synchronize handheld using new sync services with Entourage 11.2.3 and
Mac OS 10.4.X

1. Launch Entourage, click on Entourage, then preferences, choose isync
services, and place a check mark in all 3 boxes and click on ok.
2. Go into the hard drive/library/application support/palm hot sync/conduit
- if Entourage conduit is in here drag it to the trash.
3. Go into the Hard drive/applications/open isync- in the menu bar up top
click devices, then choose enable palm OS syncing, then continue, and ok.
4. Go into the hard drive/applications/palm/palm desktop - click on hotsync
in the menu bar and conduit settings, double click on isync and place a
check in Enable isync for this palm device
5. If you never synchronized with Palm Desktop before you need to
synchronize with Palm Desktop before you can sync through the isync services
6. Go into the Hard drive/applications/isync, then click on the palm device,
and under calendars where it states put events created on palm into - select
Entourage, then click on sync devices- this will start the synchronization
with the Palm Successfully
