Syncserver running at 103% when Entourage is open?????

Hi

Is anyone else seeing this problem.

For a lot of time SyncServer is running at 95% to 110% while Entourage is
open.

If I close Entourage SyncServer drops right down to next to nothing.

This is HUGE problem for me.

There is a couple of things you can try:
- make sure Office is perfectly up to date (should be 12.1.2)
- rebuild your identity (press option down as you launch Entourage to
get to the dialog).

It means that either the SyncService app is not up to date or you have
some seriously problematic data that fails to sync.

Hi Corentin

Thanks for the reply.

I am fully up to date both with mc OSX and with Office.

I will try the Identity rebuild and report back.

Regards.

Hi Corentin

My profuse thanks.

This has certainly seemed to do the trick.

I rebuilt the identity yesterday evening and have had Entourage open for
nearly an hour now and although there have been a couple of SyncServer
spikes in general it is working like a charm.

Again my thanks.

I'm glad it fixed the problem and thanks for posting back in the group
to let us know. It really helps to know what indeed corrected the
problem,

Hmmm

The problem has reappeared and despite rebuilding the database a couple of
times and seeming to temporarily fix the problem it always comes back after
a couple of days.

Any other ideas?

I am ONLY syncing my address book, nothing else so this level of CPU usage
is beyond my understanding!!!!!!

Cheers.

This is a hard one to test.

Normally, we suggest testing in a new User.

Let's look at what could be causing the problem. Data in your Identity is
corrupt that takes a few round trips to cause the problem. Files/caches in
your User's folder get corrupted. The Address Book data is corrupted. Your
database is corrupted and rebuilding did not fix.

I would do two things:

1. create a new Identity in Entourage
2. delete the current Address Book data

To move into a new Identity, you will need to manually move over your data.
I suggest the Entourage archive (.rge) file method. This is fairly quick.
How to manually move your data in Entourage 2004 & 2008
<http://www.entourage.mvps.org/import_export/manual_04_08.html>

Once you get in your new Identity make a backup and archive (zip) it. If
this fails, then it's either your User's folder or the base OS files. Let me
know if creating a new Identity works with a fresh sync to the Address Book.

Hi Diane

This looks kind of scary when I have 6 years of emails and a couple of Gb's
of data to transfer plus my connections to Mobileme and Exchange, if
anything went wrong it looks like I could do a lot of damage!

Fixing any problem can come with risk. However, you mitigate risk with
backups of your data first. You can find instructions here.

Once you know you have your data in another location then you can feel
free to test and troubleshoot.
