Table cell marks have disappeared

A friend has noted this problem and I can't figure out
why this happened:

Up until last week, when I went into "labels" and chose a
particular label and selected "New Document" I would get
a page of that particular label with lines that looked
liked a table. Now I get the page, and it is set up for
that label, but I don't get the lines anymore, so it's
hard to tell where the label ends or begins. Do you have
any idea why this happened? and how to correct it?

She is using Word 97 or Word 2000 (I'm not sure which and
can't ask her over the weekend).
