About Every 5 munites I hear a tapping sound comeing from my computer,
about 22 taps
..
It started after instaling Entourage updae. It might have something to do with my e-mail. Can you help me stop this tapping.

Hello. After I run the updater to Entourage 2008 (12.0.1) my Mac Pro's hard drive works overtime. I can tell because the excessive activity can be kind of noisy; this might appear, at times, as a tapping sound coming from the computer.

Yes, but ... if it is really a net 'tapping', then it may come from a
dying hard disk. If so, you'd better save all its contents on another
drive and replace it.
I know it hard to tell if it is really the hard disk or not. Almost the
only way would be to replace that hard disk by another (that you can
later on put in an external box), and see if the sound stops...

Actually, I suspect it's the "No Mail Sound" -- notifications were broken in
the first release of Entourage 2008, but fixed in the update. For some odd
reason, there is a default sound assigned for when Enoturage polls your
server and finds *no* new mail, and if you're checking multiple folders,
this sound will fire off once for each folder that has no new messages in
it. I didn't really notice it myself until I configured Entourage to start
checking multiple folders during each Send/Receive cycle, after which it
sounded like there was a bongo drum going off every few minutes.

It's actually quite annoying, and I ended up turning it off. It can be
found under "Entourage, Preferences, Notifications" and it's the one titled
"No mail sound."

You can click on the small speaker the appears beside it to hear a sample of
the sound and compare it to what you're hearing.
