OS: Win XP 5.1.2600 SP1
Application: Outlook 2002 SP2
connected to: Exchange Server 2003

Problem:
When I click on the tasks folder it disappears and Outlook exits
itsself. Sometimes there is a dialog, which asks if I like to report
this malfunction to Microsoft.

Now I'm working with a new tasks folder, which is not a system folder.
This is OK, but I can't use the reminder function, which seems to be
only available in the system folder.

How can I reactivate my tasks system folder?

Every idea is appreciated.

There is a command line switch that may help, go to the Run command and type
"outlook /resetfolders" without the quotes.

Thanks Noel,

I executed the command and the command itself seems to work,
but it hasn't changed the situation.
Outlook still quits, when I click onto the Tasks folder.

You may have to consider creating a New Profile, first I would try Detect
and Repair of Outlook/Office. Have you tried accessing via Outlook Web
access or logging onto another machine.

Dear Noel,

When I access via Outlook Web Access I don't have this problem.
Fine, but what does it mean?

Detect and Repair Outlook does not help, as well as a complete new
installation of Outlook.
These things I tried some times ago.

I would say that particular profile on the computer is damaged, see if
creating a new profile helps (not re-install Outlook) or try logging onto
another computer to test. You create another profile in Control Panel and
the Mail icon.

Thank you for your patience Noel,

creating a new profile doesn't help, this was one of the actions
taken by my system administrator.

But why is it possible to get access via Outloook Web Access?

OWA was just my way of checking that the actual mailbox was okay and the
problem is in Outlook, remember Outlook and OWA are totally separate and the
only connection between them is they are both called Outlook.
Does this problem still happen if you start Outlook from the Run command
with this switch "outlook /safe" without the quotes but with the space
before the forward slash.

Well, they both provide access to the Exchange mailbox, so they have that
connection at least.

I have started Outlook while pressing CTRL-key (save mode),
but the problem is still existant.
