Template guides in Publisher

I need to construct a template page in Publisher with a circular guideline
for people to line up artwork for printing round images. I have downloaded a
Publisher template from the Avery site for their CD label, where they have
incorporated a circle on the page that is visible but not printable or
moveable or selectable that is exactly what I want to do, except that I
cannot work out how they have done it. What is the trick?

I would be very grateful for any help.

I have tried this - but there are two problems. A) how do I stop the template
itself from printing, and B) how do I get it to be in front of the artwork
being created (otherwise the template is hidden by an image that is being
positioned over it). I would like to keep it visible.

I have checked the Avery ones, they have not used the master page as far as
I can tell.

You can check ignore Master page, it will not print.
Have your users create two circles the size of the background circles.Group
them, send them to the back. When they are finished creating, have them give the
circles no line or delete them.

Hi Mary,

Thanks for your reply.

What you suggest is still not as elegant as the ones that Avery provide.
Have they programmed their own extensions to Publisher to achieve this, or do
they guard their methods as a trade secret.

What they seem to have done is to "lock" a shape, (similar to how it can be
done in Corel Draw) so that it cannot be moved or selected without unlocking.
Is there any way of doing this?

Finally, can the Master page be made to be on top of anything on the
document pages, of does it always have to be underneath.

They have probably found some workaround to access the method that Publisher
uses in its internal templates to create non-printing circle guides.
Possibly by just basing their template on a Publisher template, which you
could do. If it's harder than that, it's most likely a trade secret.

Nope.

And nope. Sorry.

Thanks for your help, looks like I will have to make do with using the master
page. Perhaps Microsoft will put some enhancements in the next upgrade

Perhaps in Publisher 14. 2007 Publisher is already in beta and hence no
major features will be introduced (and the beta does not have this
functionality)
