How do I create a new templet, save it and apply it to my presentation.
please walk me through.

did not work for me. Artical not clear. Could you please walk me through how
to do this. The artical says you have to save as presentation design. This
option does not exist. It is either presentation or design templet

You will first need to do the design in the slide master (Click view > master

slide master).

After you are done, save it as a design template (.pot).

To apply this template on a new presentation, click Format > Slide Design.
Click Browse and look for your template. Then click Apply.
