Temporary Files

F

Frustrated

We have two users on Office 2003. They create 99% of my
temporary garbage files on our network. Is there a way
to "turn off" the creation of the ~ilename.doc files?
I've checked the system environmental settings to ensure
they go to a folder on their harddrive. I've also
checked in the Word Options setting for temp file
locations; however, not matter what these two areas say,
there are ~ile name.doc files that remain on the network
drives once they exit out of the original document.
Please tell me how I can stop this madness. Thank you!

Do these folks have delete permissions for
the folder where those documents exist?
The 'owner' files are always created in
the original source location to help keep
from having two people attempt to simultaneously
edit the same document. They are usually
deleted when Word closes normally, but
from time to time using Start=>Search to
locate and remove files found with the name
string of ~$*.*;*.tmp or ~$*.do*;*.tmp
to narrow the search a bit may be needed.

You may want to look at the setting in Word in
Tools=>Options=>Save for creating a local copy
of the documents and the information on how
Word uses temp files here may be helpful.
