Text 1 not visible in other views

Hello all,
I have what I hope is a simple question. In the Task Sheet view I have
created a column to track sales order numbers of new jobs, using text 1. When
I switch to the resourse useage sheet view and attempt to insert the Text 1
column, no data appears in the column.
I assumed that Text 1 was always the same value regardless of the sheet it
is being viewed in. Am I in left field here or am I messing up something very
simple which will make me want to beat my head against the desk?
Thanks,
Roger

MSP is a relational database w/ 3 basic types of fields: Resource, Task,
Assignments.

You created a Task Field (Text 1).
You need to populate date for a Resource Field (Text 1).

Those are two distinct fields.

Roger,
To expand a bit on what Andrew said, you might want to go to our MVP
website at: http://www.mvps.org/project/faqs.htm
and take a look at FAQ 51 - Data Types: Task, Resource and Assignment.

Hope this helps.

Good Morning,
After playing around a bit last night, I can see why Text1 resource and
Text1 Task are interdependent. However, Is there anyway to force them to be
equal. It would be very helpful for me if I could switch from task view to
resource useage and see the hours allocated to each task and unit for every
resource. I understand that I could use a filter in the task view, but I like
the layout of the resource useage sheet and it is much easier to view each
resource.
I have a feeling the answer will indicate that linking the two will not be
possible, but I figured I would ask anyway.

Thanks again,
Roger

Hi,

They even aren't interdependent, they are completely different objects.
You will bnever see task.text1 in the resource sheet nor resource.text1 in
the Gantt Chart
The way to see a same text1 in both the Task Usage and Resource Usage View
is to copy them to the Assignment.text1 field.
For instance, suppose you have entered a value for text1 in the Gantt Chart
(task object)
Go to Task Usage View
For each task copy the task value into the assignment lines (these are NOT
resource lines, they represent assignments)
Now in Resource Usage you can see this text1 of the assignments.

OBTW, what would you do in case a task has sweveral resoruces working on it?
