Text attachment bug?

P

Paul Keir

I'm using 10.1.4 and really struggling with a text file line endings
problem.

I understand that Mac and PC and have different line endings - and I can
open a text file attachment in another app and re-save to remove the
problem.

My problem is I don't want to open these files and 'work around' the
problem - these files are sent every day and I have various people I want to
upload them to a web server as part of a site data update - so I don't want
to hand edit each one each time - the idea is they are saved to disk and
uploaded to a fixed directory (and thats all that should happen).

Does anyone know how to stop Entourage doing this - or is it a bug that we
have to wait for a fix for?

Regards

Paul.

Paul, I've never heard of this (or I'm not understanding you correctly). I
transfer files (text and graphics) all the time without having to do some
type of "workaround." At least no one has said anything to me.

Could you elaborate more? Tks

I suspect it may be a combination of our Exchange Server (running on Windows
Business Server 2003) and Entourage.

I also have a PC running Outlook and it doesn't show the problem.

When our client sends an email with a Text file attached (from their PC) and
Entourage forwards it to another recipient or saves it to the disk, if that
file is opened by a PC or UNIX/MACosX machine the file appears as if its one
big line.

I've read elsewhere that Macs use CR for end of line but PCs use CR/LF -
although this is at the heart of the problem I don't know why our set up
doesn't seem to understand it! As you say - you use it each day without a
problem, which is how it should be when set up correctly. I've been through
all the Entourage prefs and can't see anything that will help.

Regards

Paul.
