"The connection to the MS exchange server is unavailable...."

I just upgraded (I thought) from Office 2002 to 2003. I am getting the error message, "The connection to the MS Exchange Server is unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action." My goal is to get my Comcast mail in Outlook 2003, and I see others in the group who have a similar problem. It's maddening, and I'd like to know how to fix it. I'm relatively inexperienced at setting defaults, etc., so please please provide idiot-proof solutions. Thanks!
