The sad state of QuickTime in PP for Windows

M

Morten Dreier

We use a lot of video in our presentations, and we are _very_ stressed
by the fact that the Windows version only supports QuickTime 3 or
something like that. That means that we, as a cross-plattform
enviroment, are stuck with the Cinepak codec until the Windows
PowerPoint team comes ut with a proper, modern QuickTime support.

What is the problem? Some sources state that the problem is that MS use
their own, depricated QuickTime 2.x-libraries instead of using the
modern, crossplattform api of QuickTime 6/7. It this correct?
Where do we complain?

You can try as the following,
1. Embed your quicktime .mov file in a web page
for example: <embed src="sample.mov" width="320" height="256"></embed>
2. Insert the web page into your powerpoint presentation

The problem is not of a technical nature. Rather it's all about the
licensing of the technology between the two companies. (Apple and MS)

The best solution is to convert the QT file into a format acceptable to
PowerPoint. (QT pro does this nicely.)

Hi,

I think Austin means that for best cross-platform performance use a file
type that is supported by both Windows and Mac versions of PowerPoint.

The file type that seems to work best for me is .avi

Morten, you did find the right place to complain, though. This is the place.
