"There is no such disk" - NOT an alias issue

every time i try to start entourage 2004 (student edition), i get a
"There is no such disk" error and it refuses to launch. i have read
that this error can arise where the Documents folder has been moved and
has been replaced by an alias. but my documents folder has never been
moved and i have no alias for it.

are there any other causes for this problem, and hopefully fixes?
