Things that don´t compute in the ExchangeUpdate

I ve been reading these news groups, but am getting more and more confused
trying to make Entourage for Exchange work

Work in a large firm with hundred of servers, domains and stuff. We have a
bunch of Macs as well.

We run Exchange 2000

We have OWA (Outlook via Web)

Adm. WONT turn on IMAP

But I can send a receive and send mails - even though I shouldnt be able to
with the IMAP off??

I cant see others FREE/BUSY - our FREE/BUSY servers are divided on 3
different servers.

I can´t make LDAP work - all though I should have the right LDAP server

NOTES - can´t see them om Exchange

Tasks - can´t see them on Exchange

So theres a lot of thing that puzzle me. Furthermore its frustrating as we
have been waiting for the exchange update for a a long time. it frustrates
me as well that MS have built this ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT Office Suite, and do
not provide us with a outlook client that simply works. There is too much
technical hanky panky setting it up. Too many "if" and "do that"

Outlook for 9.X just WORKS. Could we have the same in Entourage, pls. And
you know what - we would even be glad to PAY for it. As it is now - we have
(again) put out purchase of a 3 digit numbers of Office X on a hold.

Hope you can help - and pls. - do not refer to the help-pages. Been there,
and our adm. are scared like shit to change a bit on the servers (esp. in
these times of multi vira)

using the resources available before asking for help. Then if you are still

Then you're in trouble... Do they have any (valid) reason why they
refuse to tunr it on ???

You receive mail from the server or from outside ??? What kind of
setting do you have. Are you sure you;re not getting the mail through
POP ??

You should be able to use the owa server for that.

That can be a lot more tricky.....
You might have to manually setup the Active Directory appluication on
your mac and you'll need the help of your NetAdmin.

I believe MS should have said "here is an update that makes Entourage
partuially compatible with Exchange provinding some conditions are met".
A lot of people assumed they were getting Outlook for MacOS X :-\
Outlook for 9.X just WORKS. Could we have the same in Entourage, pls. And
you know what - we would even be glad to PAY for it. As it is now - we have

I understand that, but they sould simply use IMAP with authentication. I
don't quite see what would then be the problem.
