This identity cannot be opened with this version of Entourage error

Dear all,

First of all, please assume I am almost totally computer illiterate
(ok, I know how to turn on a Mac and open files).

The problem is that after unsuccessfully trying to install Office 2004
11.2, I was forced to remove Office with MS Office remove tool. Upon
reinstalling it, I get a "This identity cannot be opened with this
version of Entourage" error message and I cannot even enter Entourage
to solve whatsoever.

Can someone help me overcome this error?

The Office SP2 updater (and maybe even the SP1 updater, I don't remember)
changed Entourage's database format, which explains why older versions of
Entourage can't read a more modern database. Download all the available
updates there are for Office 2004 (simply use Microsoft AutoUpdate), and
launch Entourage; your database should open just fine.
