Using Entourage 2004, v 11.1.1.

I transfered my entire Docs folder to my Powerbook this morning. I'm
now set up in a hotel room, and clicking on Entourage 2004 gives me
this message:

"This identity cannot be opened with this version of Entourage."

I was sure I'd updated the Erage on my Powerbook, but to check, I
removed the Identity to my desktop, let Entourage set up a new Identity
and checked which version I was using. Sure enough: v 11.1.1

So I do the following fixes:

1. rebuild the database by holding down the option key. Still no dice,
and actually, the brand new Identity is now also giving me the same
identical error message.

2. I run all the options on the fixit program, Onyx, including rebuing
permissions. I restart the Powerbook a few times.

3. I reinstall Office 2004 from the CD, and then run all the updates.
Still same error message.

Any ideas? I'm really stumped, and kind of screwed if I can't fix this
in my hotel room.

by the way, the Identity was about 900 megs in size, if that helps.

You don't happen to have another version of Office around, say the test
drive? It's installed as a part of the OS in 10.4...

It sounds as if the database daemon which is launched is not the 11.2
version. Are there more than one daemons listed in your login items?

Nathan, you are correct. I did a search, via Spotlight, for the word
daemon. One version of Entourage Microsoft Database Daemon came up. I
command-click on it, which brought up that file. I Got Info on it, and
it says that the Daemon is version 11.1.0.

I have tried updating Office via some other program, like Word, since
Entourage no longer loads. So I will attempt to remove all Identities
from the MUD folder, and try to get Entourage to load that way. Then I
can see if the updater will work.

Also, oddly: no daemon was in my Login Items.

I'll report back in a few...

Was the identity (MUD folder) used on the other Mac running version 11.2?
If so, update Entourage (Office) to SP2.

Ok. I was able to open up the Identity by running the Uninstaller,
restarting/repairing permissions, then reinstalling Office X and 2004,
and then all the updaters. The updater missed the last 11.2, but I
grabbed that at MacTopia.com.

However, the calendar is missing many events, and the address book is
really funky. No one shows up in the list, but if I click on some of
the default views, hundreds of contacts appear. It's quite a mess.

I'm going to next try Paul B's Export-Import script, which I own and
haven't used since it first came out. I've heard that it can repair
some busted ID's.

What a mess. I'll report back later today...

Ok, it's all up and running. Somehow in the process of trying to
repeatedly access the Identity with an older version of Entourage, the
file got pretty corrupted. I ran Paul's script, rebuilt it all the ways
possible, but in the end, the only fix was to go grab a fresh version
from my G5, which opened immediately and flawlessly.

thanks all for the ideas and help.
