"This modification is not allowed because the project is locked"

I am using a copy of Microsoft Office Proffesional 2003 that I have bought
and downloaded from www.studentoptions.com. I used the product several times
without any problems. Until recently when Office starting running with
reduced functionality (with the menus shaded out and unable use). Whenever I
try to input text or modify a document I am met by the error "This
modification is not allowed because the project is locked".

I have looked on the Microsoft Support website and it is suggested that
Office is not activated. I follow the guidelines to activate my product
Help
Activate Product...
However, when I click "Activate Product..." it is none responsive.
Apparantly a window should appear either telling me that the product is
already activated or a wizard taking me through the registration proccess but
nothing happens.

So to sum up, I'm "locked out" M.S. Office and can not activate or check if
my product is activated.
Can some one please help me with the problem.

Run the Office Validation Assistant

Legitimate versions of Microsoft Office are not available for
download. You need to purchase a "boxed" version which
includes the holographic Office installation CD and the
legitimate Certificate of Authenticity.

I have run the validation assistance and I have a valid Office Product Key.
Please keep me informed on updates the enquiry of studentoptions.com

No, you do not have a valid Office product key, because you paid
studentoptions.com for pirated software.

On the assumption that finance is a problem here, you may wish to
consider downloading OpenOffice, which is free of charge, free of
licensing issues, and has good compatibility with MS Office. See
http://www.openoffice.org/ for details.
