See if this helps. Tools/Options then pull the schedule tab.
Change the default "Duration is entered in:" from Days to Weeks.
Click OK.
Now, everything is entered in weeks, so the summary (father) tasks show as
weeks and so do the children. However, you can manually key the children
with durations in Days: 5d.
The duration column is now shown in weeks and days with summaries in weeks
and discrete (child) tasks as days.
Fooling the software in this manner involves manual entery of units "days"
for all tasks. This may be more work than any benefit received.
I have not discovered a way to change the time scale on the right side to
mix duration units. It would be nice to have a magnifying glass feature that
would allow you to zoom in on some of the tasks and have the duration break
open.
