Andy

I want excel to look at a time value (in minutes) and if
it more than the alotted time time I want it to display it
as a negitive value

ie
If a task was started at 08:30 and finished at 08:45 but
that task should only take 10 minutes then i want excel to
display -5, but I can only get excel to display the number
(when the cell is in time format) when it is positive.

Can anyone help it's got me round the bend.

If you need more clarification then please ask.

Thanks.

Thanks for the quick response Aladin

I dont think I explained myself very well.

A1 B1 C1 D1 E1
08:50 09:10 00:20 0:25 0:05

I have a spreadsheet like above.

Column A has the time the task started.
Column B has the time the task finished.
Column C has the actual time taken to complete the task.
Column D has the time the task should have taken (this
number is generated form a lookup table which is linked to
task number ie every task has a ideal time to complete).
Column E is where I would like it to calculate the
deviation form D1 to C1. This is fine if D1 is larger than
C1 but when it is not excel returns ####### and I would
like it to return a negitive value.

Thanks again for your support.

Andy
Column E is formatted to Time (hh:mm)
