Timeline label

We have clalnders for the government that uses fiscal years, but the company
works on the calander year.

I'm using a three tier timeline with FY on top, CY on the middile and months
on the third.

To avoid confusion,........Can someone please tell me how to relable the
timeline texts to a custom like "FY2007" and "CY2007". These options are
not available from the drop down list of label types.

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

Not possible, sorry :( - which is why I always advise not using fiscal years
for project managing. Switch to fiscal years when the accountants want to
see the reports and switch back again for your continuing sanity!

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)

Bill,
Sorry, the timeline labels are not customizable. You can however add a
vertical line depicting the start of each fiscal year. Go to
Format/Gridlines and set the Top Tier Column gridline.

But I'm curious, why worry about fiscal versus calendar? Unless you are
trying to display fiscal or calendar year timescaled data in either
Usage view, a month is still a month and that's normally how data is
reported. If you really want to be challenged, try working with
Government accounting months (e.g. 4-4-5).

Thanks all, I thought this much. For John: The reason we use FY on the
calender is to see what activities fall inthe FY for budgeting purposes and
aligning with the Gov'ts master schedule that is based on FY for the same
reason.

That would be a great benefit for the next update of project to have
custom timeline labels.

Thanks,
Bill.

Bill,
You're welcome even though it wasn't the answer you wanted. I understand
what you are trying to do but I'd be very surprised if your tasks break
neatly on fiscal (or calendar) year boundaries.

You're welcome, Bill :)

Why not tell Microsoft direct - they seldom look in these newsgroups?
