Timeline template in Word

Does anyone know whether a timeline generated using the template can be
published as a web page? If yes, what format should the document be saved in?

Don't know. Why not try doing a "save as web page" or "save as HTML" and see
if it works? Word can save HTML documents.

If that doesn't help, post back with which version of Word you are using,
and what kind of web site you are wanting to publish it to (your blog, a
discussion forum, a marketing site, or whatever).
