Timing is off when creating a .pps file

I created a slideshow in Powerpoint 2003 with automatic timing throughout.
The show runs perfectly on my system. When I make a self running .pps file
the timings are all wrong. Even when I create a .ppt file and run it in the
powerpoint viewer download from Microsoft, the timings are still wrong. This
is true on my system or any other system. What gives? I've never had this
problem with Powerpoint 2000.

It's dependent on the presentation and on the system. PowerPoint doesn't do a
good job. See
