timing of slides / recording duration of each slide

is there any way to find out/record the time that each slide has been
displayed during a presentation? I'm not looking to pre-set the length
of time that each slide will be up, but to simply record how longa
presenter has let each slide remain on display.

If that's not possible within powerpoint, is there software that
accomplishes the same thing?

The page that TAJ pointed you at will tell you what the transition times are,
if any.

For what I think you want, try getting the speaker to use the Record Narration
feature. You can ignore the narration part if you like (choose Link so that it
doesn't embed bogus sound files in the PPT file itself). But it'll record
timings for each slide as the user moves from it to the next slide.

THEN you could use the code on the page TAJ pointed you at to get a list of the
timings.

It's also possible to have an addin automatically capture this information.

Any chance you would know which add-in that is specifically? Thanks in
advance!
