track attachments that are removed from email messages

I am using OL 2003. The problem I have now is the following: We have a 50 MB
limit on our Exchange Mailbox. It's not hard to fill that up with a few
large attachments. I would gladly remove those attachments (especially those
that are in emails I send -- I have no need for those, since they're already
on my hard drive) to save space in my inbox. However, once they are removed
from the email, there is no record of that attachment ever being associated
with that email. So if I go back later to review an email that says
"attached is a copy of ..." but there's no attachment, I don't know if the
attachment was sent and then removed, or whether it was never sent in the
first place (via absentmindedness, trigger fingers, whatever).

I would like to see something like a "Remove and Track" button (or a "track
attachments" checkbox in the options menu) that, when clicked, would remove
the attachment from the e-mail but would either leave text in the bottom of
the email message with the filename of the attachment you just removed, or
have that information added to a new field. Anyway, some evidence that there
was once a file by the name of <filename> attached to a given message.
