Transfer Between Sheets

E

Ed O'Brien

I run a drivers' bonus workbook where a driver's performance is measured in
penalties and pluses. Each week these points total in a column/cell. This
total is presently manually transferred to a summary sheet holding all
drivers' totals.

Does anyone know if it is possible for this transfer to be done
automatically?. That is, as the total is generated in a cell on the driver's
sheet, it appears also in the corresponding week/cell in the summary sheet.

TIA

Depending on the layout of your summary sheet on which approach to use.
I think Pivot Tables are idea for this type of thing, but you may no
want this style of layout. Do a search on pivot tables in help.

alternatively, you maybe able to use the sumif function

If I have understood the question fully it would be necessary to insert a
formula read the data across. To do this -
go to the cell TO which you want to transfer the data
Press =
go to the cell FROM which you want to transfer the data
Press enter

BUT before you do this and especially if data is in different spreadsheets
(not so important if the data is on a worksheet within the same spreadsheet)
you should name the cells FROM which you are transferring data. This will
ensure that the correct data will be used wherever it is on the spread
sheet. To do this -
click on the call
click on <Insert><Name><Define>
type in a name (This should not be in format aa99 as it can be confused with
a cell reference)
click on <OK>

Not sure if this is exactly what you want or not however, if you jus
want the total from one sheet to the other try this.

Lets say you have drivers names listed in cells A1, B1, & C1 on sheet
and sheet 2 and you want only the totals to appear from sheet 1 to shee
2 under each of the drivers names for example:

A B C A B
C
Carl Bill John 1 Carl Bill
John
1 1 2 3 2

2 2 3 4 3 6 9
12
3 3 4 5 4

4 5
5 6 9 12 6

Sheet 1 Sheet 2

On sheet 2 I would put in cell A3 =Sheet1!A6 etc, etc
Or if you prefer =Sheet1!A1:A3 this way you don't have to have th
totals on sheet 1 just numbers.

Don't know if this helps or hinders let me know

Thanks, everybody.

It's late now so I'll be trying all these tomorrow, but come back, I'll be
replying on how I get on.

Thank you, Bill.

I used your explanation. Patele's was the same but the entry =2!L3 works
rather than SHEET2!L3 which did not work.

Thanks to everybody for your help.

Great things, these forums...!

Best wishes,

Ed
