Transfer files from 2001 to Office X

I recently installed Office X, but can't seem to figure
out how to transfer my Entourage/Office 2001 files from a
machine running System 8.6 to a machine running OSX. Every
time I've tried Entourage X opens up with none of my old
files.

Do I have to transfer my files to a machine running System
9 first? Is there a better way to do this?

Copy the Microsoft User Data folder over to your new computer. You could put
on Desktop or the Applications OS9 folder at root level. Then do an Import
with Entourage X. Select to import from an application. Navigate to where
you placed the file. You might have to insert the Office 2001 CD during the
import to verify that you have it if you are using an Office X updater CD.

Your data for Entourage X is stored in the Microsoft User Data folder in
your User's Document folder.

You can delete the old MUD folder after you import.
