Transferring Entourage Data

G

We've been running Entourage X (version 10.1.6) on a PowerBook G4 and
want to transfer all of our mail (6 years worth) over to a new MacBook
Pro running Entourage 2004 (Version 11.3.3).

We have been unable to locate instructions for exactly how to do this.
We've checked both Microsoft and Apple web sites, but we haven't found
anything that actually works.

Does anyone have the complete instructions or know where we can locate
them? Thanks.

Copy your Office v.X Identities folder (~/Documents/Microsoft User
Data/Office v.X Identities) from your Powerbook's hard disk to the MacBook
Pro's ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data folder. (The MUD folder will only
exist on your MacBook Pro if you've already launched an Office application
on it. If it doesn't exist, just open up Word or Entourage and the folder
will be generated automatically.) You will now have to follow these steps:

Open Entourage 2004, then select File>Import.

Select Import information from a program, click on the right arrow.

Select Microsoft Entourage X in the next window and hit the right arrow
again.

Select the items you want to import, then hit the right arrow again.

In the next window, you should see you old Entourage identity. Select it,
then hit the right arrow again to make Entourage import everything.

Hope this was helpful. Oh, and by the way, your new MacBook Pro came with a
Test Drive version of Office 2004; make sure you remove it with the Remove
Office tool in Applications/Microsoft Office 2004/Additional Tools/Remove
Tools to prevent any possible (and probable) error messages later on.

Diane,

Thanks. The instructions worked.

But now there is a problem: On the MBP using Entourage 2004, some
messages print with about 7 blank lines between every printed line. A
one page email becomes a seven page email. This has never happened
before. Does anyone know how to correct this?

Glad you got things moved over.

I don't see anything in the FAQs or Entourage Help. Try asking again with a
different subject to reflect the print problem. I would also ask on the
microsoft.public.mac.office newsgroup. There are many MVPs that specialize
in Word that monitor this list and might be more helpful with print
questions.
