That is normal; when Entourage v.X came out, Entourage 2004 did not even
exist, which is why v.X cannot import a 2004 database. Unfortunately, going
back to v.X is not easy at all; you will need to export and import all your
data manually. It would be quite helpful to know which kind of e-mail
account you are using, as IMAP accounts are very easy to set up in a
different e-mail client. Generally speaking, many of the topics covered on
this page should apply to your case as well, despite the fact that the
article was written for Mac to Windows switchers:

My recommendation would be to use Paul Berkowitz's AppleScripts
"Export-Import Entourage", which you can find here:

Note that this is shareware. If none of the above solutions work for you,
post back, and we'll help you some more. One more thing: Entourage v.X does
not have the Project Center feature, so you won't be able to use your
projects any longer. Downgrading is always so much harder than upgrading...
i'd like to transfer all of my entourage files from 2004 to x but it only
seems to accept entourage 2001. is there any way i can do this?
this is for mail, contacts, projects, and calendar.
thanks!
