Treat -ve numbers as +ve?

Hi,

Forgive yet another (possibly stupid) question. New job & steep learning
curve I'm wanting to work with -ve numbers but have functions treat them
as +ve. I know there must be a very simple way of doing this, but have been
using the following method:

=SQRT(A1*A1) To convert the -ve value in A1 to +ve

Is there a simpler way of simply ignoring the -ve?

Do you mean the absolute value?

=ABS(A1)

That's exactly what I meant - just forgot the term - DOH! I knew there was
something simple.
