trial activation won't complete connection

I have a trial version of MS Office Professional and the activation
process isn't working. It starts to connect and the green bars move
VERY slowly and the the window just disappears and I'm back to a
useless program. My internet connection is fine, but the activation
isn't finishing connecting I suppose. I've tried about 20 times
already. The telephone activation button is grayed out and there's no
phone number, so clearly they don't want me calling them. How do I get
this activated. (And no, I'm not going to buy the full version. I
only need the Windows version temporarily.)

When you installed the Trial Suite did you do so without anything running on your system? AV was it open, were you doing something on the computer while it was installing, was the internet open? All of the latter and many more variables can apply.

I suggest that you uninstall it as per instructions(very important as per instructions) and then re-install it alone with your AV,Internet Connection closed, and not doing anything on your computer. You may just find that it will install properly and you will not have the telephone option grayed out.

Having said you aren't going to buy it I have to ask why bother going thru
all of this. It'll expire at the most inopportune moment and when you
finally do decide to buy Office, it will play havoc with the installation.

I'm a Mac user and really don't want ot be running any of this stuff,
but I am using a piece of software in my classroom this summer that is
not available for Mac yet. I have to prepare lectures and exams using
this software and the only way to do it is through Virtual PC, MS
Office and the Turning Point software (what I'll be using in the
classroom). All of this is temporary and I just don't want to throw
away money on something I only need for a month or two.
