Tried to Edit Sent Message - Now it's lost

I sent a message to someone and then decided to edit it for re-
sending. After bringing the Sent Message up and selecting the Edit
menu on the toolbar, as soon as I typed a character the message
disappeared from my screen and is now nowhere to be found. Any idea
how I can recover this message or do things differently in the future?

You can copy the contents into a new message.

Check the Deleted Items folder for the message. That's where it went when
you hit delete.
