Trouble inserting arrows

My program doesn't seem to autocorrect "-->" to a proper arrow anymore. I
haven't fiddled with any of the autocorrect settings and the 'replace text as
you type" box is checked. The other arrows and smiley faces don't
autocorrect either but the copyright symbols etc do. Can anyone help me?

Perhaps you or somebody else removed those from the autocorrect options?

Make sure that the Wingdings font is still properly installed.

Another possibility: this AutoCorrect entry is language specific and the
language where you're typing is set to a different language?
