trouble sending/forwarding mail in RTF or plain text via VPN

While using a VPN on a wireless network, Outlook functions
fine EXCEPT that I cannot send/forward mail that is not in
HTML format. When doing so, I only get the message that
Outlook is searching for my corporate mail server.

Other functions seem to work fine. Any clues?! Thanks--
