Trouble Sending or Receiving Attachments

Outlook 2000 SP3 running on XP. Receive the message "Could not open one or more attachments" when trying to send or open an email with attachments. The attachment is there and it doesnt matter the extension. Testing with a .doc. If I right click on the item without opening it I can open the attachment.
