Troubleshooting compare documents

I am having trouble with the compare documents option in Word - this happened once before with another document. When I do the compare documents on a particular agreement it shows a few changes in redlining, but at a certain point in the document it crosses out the entire remainder of the text of the document as deleted text and then shows that whole portion as new inserted text, even though it is not new text. This causes the redlined document to be twice the length it should be. I cannot tell what changes have been made to that whole section of the document because it is all highlighted in red as new text. Is there some setting that has been changed by the bank on the agreement file that causes this? Please help
